Watch out, men of the world! pt. 3: a date, a date, a very important date

The 1-2-3 process in chemistry.com is somewhat cumbersome, I think, but necessary. I do like being able to draw the process out, to get a sense of where this person is coming from: first, a survey of general criteria of what he/I value in a relationship, then short answers (“what would you take with you to a desert island?”), and then email and a meeting. So I worked through it and met my first match today for tea!

note: I have assigned the men with whom I correspond presidential pseudonyms according to the order in which I encounter them online. Thus if I work through the entire American presidency, it might be time to consider entering a convent.

I guess it’s not an especially important date, except that it’s the first one I’ve had in, um, 3 years? So I wanted to brush up my rusty conversational skills. As I realized a little while ago: I can only manage being charming in 30 minute increments, punctuated by one-hour periods of verbal nosepicking. It’s time for some practice. John Adams asked for my phone number over email; I demurred, and we chatted for awhile over email, and then he asked me again for my number or for a coffee date. I agreed to a coffee date, sans phone number.

We met up at a little tea shop in a nearby downtown. My first impression of Adams was…cute! The photos were actually pretty accurate, and he had indeed the physique that he advertised. And beautiful eyes. Turned out that we had a surprising amount in common, and the conversational back and forth was very easy and fun. After an hour or so–I only expected to stay a half hour–Adams kindly walked me to my bus stop and asked again for my number, and I finally gave it to him. I offered him a handshake–he said, a handshake for now!–and off he went.

True love? Nah. An attractive guy, and will probably make an amazing friend, but…even if he felt the spark, I’m not sure I did. But it was fun, good clean fun.

Alright, he might be worth a kiss. We’ll see :)

next: George Washington!

  1. Huzzah!! I’m delighted to hear how things are turning out. :) Adams sounds very attractive, I must say. But I’m eager to see how he compares with Washington!

Hope all else is going as well. :)

  3. Ooooh, look forward to pics. :) We’re in San Jose (sister’s engagement party — went very well and we are stuffed stuffed stuffed) so it was sunny and not rainy! Rain sounds excellent though; my plants need it. :)

Want to get together sometime next week?
