According to the UCLA bookstore, my books add up to an astonishing 395 for my two courses. Then there’s my independent study, for which I have no idea how much I’ve yet to spend. I’ve tried to go as cheaply as possible, and have limited the damage to only about 160 so far for one class.
Thank god for scholarshare, anyway; geez, I thought I would spend around 300 on books, but it looks like upwards of 400 or 500 or so. Dang. I remember feeling indignant as an undergrad when my books added up to 200. Sigh. Well, I guess you science people have no sympathy for me, but c’mon! We humanities people have no future to bank on like you guys. Sad.
It may come to mugging undergraduates on the street.
Are you buying all your books from the school bookstore (or, I guess I’m saying, do you insist on having them all be new)? You can always buy them used online, or borrow them from the library. Or, if you don’t write in your books, borrow mine or someone else’s! I’ve just looked at the 246A list and I have at least half of those required readings books.
Good luck

I bought most of them online, actually. I bought the ones I need immediately (used) from the bookstore. But I like to have blank used books I can scribble in, so :0)
thanks lisa!
